Why are American Christians so right wing? In other parts of world Christians are concerned with the poor and displaced, you know, like Jesus taught.

Yeah, but in other parts these are less tied to THE really important conservative christian values - the ones about male leadership, female submission and various nationalist projects. Christianity has some very conservative branches and those are generally consistent.
If Americans christians wanted to move to the left, they would need to give up the above in a way other christians do not have to. And it so happen the above is more important for them.
