Short version: The processes of applying for a job at a Creepy-Spooky Agency, getting hired by a C-SA, and getting ahead at a C-SA are all biased toward people with "more is better" attitudes toward doing creepy & spooky stuff. And biases against any sort of pesky oversight for such stuff. Let alone telling the truth about doing such stuff, or the actual public utility of it.
