Once politics comes for AI, it'll be a thermonuclear finished. You'd be better off if the financial bubble popped than what is coming. It's the kind of public retribution where you don't tell people you work in AI because their response stresses you out.

I work on deep learning systems (not generative AI), and from my perspective we're already there. I learned a while back to not mention this aspect of my work to people outside my field, even though my work is not on the type of systems making everyone angry.
