Show HN: The Forge Calculator – Instant results for complex crafting math

https://theforgecalculator.online

So, what is this thing? It’s called The Forge Calculator. Basically, it’s a tiny website I cooked up for anyone who messes around with the "The Forge" crafting system in those big games. You know, the one where you’re trying to figure out probabilities, stat ranges, and all that headache?

You plug in your materials and what you’re hoping to get, and the tool instantly spits out the exact success odds, the statistical sweet spots, and what trait thresholds you actually need to aim for. It turns that whole guesswork nightmare into actual numbers.

Go ahead and try it—no sign-ups or anything weird: theforgecalculator.online

The Story Behind It Honestly, I’m a huge fan of the game, but I got seriously fed up with the crafting math. Every time I wanted to forge a new high-tier item, I was digging through old forum posts and trying to make clunky spreadsheets work just to figure out my odds. It was time-consuming and I kept making mistakes.

I figured, "There has to be a better way." So, I started with a little script for myself. Then I cleaned it up and realized: if I’m struggling with this, the entire community is probably struggling, too. I spent my free time building this simple web interface around that core math engine so everyone could use it instantly.

Why Bother Using This One? You might have seen other tools out there, but they’re usually static charts, broken spreadsheets, or old, outdated websites. Mine is different because:

It’s Instant and Zero Friction: I hate signing up for things just to use a simple calculator. This site requires zero sign-up, zero email, and it’s not tracking anything. It’s just fast.

It’s About Optimization: It doesn't just tell you if you can succeed; it tells you the minimum required materials to hit the best statistical breakpoints. That saves serious time and in-game currency for high-level players.

It’s Built to Last: Everything runs right in your browser (client-side JavaScript). It’s super fast, and since I don't have to manage a complex server, I can keep it running forever.

I’m putting this out there because I think the community needs a solid, reliable tool for this. It’s pretty early days, so if you break it or find a weird calculation, let me know! I’m around to answer questions about the code or the logic.
