I would love if they could pull off resurrecting the brand! I miss this blue bird.
al_borland•12h ago
It seems like if it gets any traction there would be an immediate lawsuit over the name.

And who is behind this? There is 0 actual information, it just looks like a site that plays on nostalgia and seeks to harvest data.

frizlab•12h ago
More info (in French) https://www.igen.fr/services/2025/12/twitter-pourrait-bien-r...

The guy is actually arguing the brand has been abandoned and as such can be reclaimed. He’s a lawyer.

EDIT: Found another article in English (actually linked from the one in French…) https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2025/12/can-t...

I won't be providing my full name and email without more information, like at least a peek inside. Interesting legal argument regarding the brand though.
ChrisArchitect•12h ago
We already did this................. with fediverse/mastodon, and particularly, Bluesky..... Is the Twitter brand worth that much to start a new one? At this point I'd say no. Just come up with a new name and start whatever you wanna start.
al_borland•10h ago
It reminds me of all the people who have tried to revive the Napster and MySpace names. The name was only special because of what was behind it. Once public perception shifts, a new service with the old name is rarely going to bring people back. It will only help make a few headlines at launch.

Another centralized platform isn’t a great candidate for fixing "the public square".

The future is decentralized. Many people have learned the hard way what happens with centralized social media.
