Show HN: Finrup – a free, offline-first personal finance app for iOS

https://apps.apple.com/in/app/finrup/id6752817572
2•amritghimire•1mo ago
For past few years, I went through multiple option and some didn't work for me because of privacy concern, some didn't work for me because I missed some feature and I had fallen back to number spreadsheet and spreadsheet formulas. I wanted a personal finance app that works offline, stays simple, and doesn’t rely on external servers. Most apps I tried required accounts, subscriptions, or bank integrations. I wanted something closer to a local notebook: fast manual entry, clear summaries, and full control over where the data lives. So I built Finrup as a solo project.

Finrup is an iOS app for manual expense tracking. All data is stored locally on the device. The only sync option is iCloud, used purely for backup and multi-device continuity.

No backend, no ads, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, no signup, no subscriptions.

Things I focused on: - Offline-first by design - Privacy-preserving (data never leaves the Apple ecosystem) - Manual entry on purpose (no bank APIs or aggregators) - Completely free

The goal was to keep the feature set small and the behavior predictable, instead of turning it into a dashboard-heavy system that needs constant data ingestion.

To try it, you can download from the App Store and start using it immediately — no setup required. You can also go through guide at https://amritghimire.com/tech/finrup-expense-tracking-guide to see how to use.

This is the first time I’m sharing Finrup on HN. I’d appreciate feedback on usability, missing features, or whether this level of simplicity is useful long-term. Happy to answer technical questions.

Clarification: the app has no server component. Persistence is local, and iCloud is used only for sync/backup. I avoided bank integrations intentionally to keep the app offline-capable and privacy-respecting.
