Show HN: Chat with people who share the same Internet connection (= IP address)

https://ipchat.org
17•kkovacs•1mo ago
I built a simple, ephemeral chat service that connects you only with users who share the exact same public IP address as you.

It's essentially a temporary, isolated chat room defined by your NAT gateway.

It's not super useful nowadays, but let's see where this takes us. :)

Dude, IPv6… We are in 2026.

The GUA are 128 bits, every one of us is alone.

kkovacs•1mo ago
You would be surprised how many of us are on IPv4 :) With GUA, who needs tracking cookies? ;)
proactivesvcs•1mo ago

  i netted six
alone in a scope of the entire globe,
  temporary,
  dynamic.
zinekeller•1mo ago
Yeah, it should probably be /64 for IPv6
kkovacs•1mo ago
Could be done, but nothing is EVER simple regarding IPv6. :) What about EUI-64? Any special cases regarding TEREDO, ORCHID2, 6to4 addressing scheme (NOT the same as NAT64!), etc...?

Nevertheless, something like this could be an option.

baobun•1mo ago
I guess this could be fun for people using shared VPN and proxy services
kkovacs•1mo ago
Heh, I never thought about that, but it's true.

kkovacs•1mo ago
That could be a logical next step!
