The first prototype was hacked together in a weekend: just a Bluetooth module wired to a serial chip. It worked, but it was just bare circuit boards held together with hope. Still, it changed how I worked. No more standing at the rack.
I showed it to my colleague Jürg. He immediately asked: "Can it do USB consoles too?" Then: "What if you forget it plugged in somewhere?" That evening we sat down and made a list of everything that would make this thing actually useful day-to-day. Integrated battery. USB and RJ45 ports. An alarm so you don't leave it behind. Different LED colors so you know which unit is which when you're working on multiple devices.
That was years ago. Since then we've gone through countless revisions, fixed things we didn't know were broken, and used it daily in our own work. It's now at a point where I finally feel comfortable showing it to others.
Would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you've dealt with the same serial cable frustrations.
