dang, I thought for a second that they were "Now" getting serious about drivers for linux.
duffyjp•1w ago
I don't know if it's me, but right now nvidia on Linux is the least stable it's ever been. I have two desktops, one dedicated Linux box and one I dual boot. On the Linux only one I bought a dirt cheap ($30) Radeon Pro WX 3200 so my system won't crash constantly. I still have the nvidia card for CUDA stuff. It's working great for what I do.

I have a second used Radeon on the way for the other system. It's insane, but this is the only solution. If my monitor turns off or I switch inputs, I can't get it back when connected to the nvidia cards. I've done every troubleshooting step I can find, it's just a broken ecosystem.

GuestFAUniverse•1w ago
I use a 1050Ti (needs the closed source driver) with a Debian 13. Rock solid and the older titles I play even run smooth in 1440p. Not a single crash -- just have to wait if a new kernel arrives and avoid backpirted kernels. shrug
pjmlp•1w ago
They are serious about Linux drivers, after all their main research OS is a Linux distribution.

Which is naturally not what the FOSS community wants.

Festivity1299•1w ago
While its not good drivers, it's still a step in the right direction whenever a company provides a native linux build.

I am so excited for the steam machines to come out. The steam deck moved the needle in a massive way and I'm hoping for the same.

Interesting that they chose to showcase Battlefield 6 in the release video when that game uses Kernel level anti cheat that prevents you from playing on Linux?
Ethee•1w ago
This press piece is specifically about their client software for streaming. The actual host PC is likely a Windows PC specifically for these kinds of compatibility purposes I'd imagine.
p_l•1w ago
Some time ago, The server side of GeForce Now utilizes VMs running on servers with partitioned Quadro cards, with each partition assigned to one client VM running prepared Windows machine
mindcrash•1w ago
Nvidia's infrastructure is somehow whitelisted. They support pretty much every game with invasive kernel level anti cheat, at least those from Microsoft / Xbox Game Studios (notably Activision Blizzard's Call of Duty series), and Electronic Arts (Battlefield, FIFA and the like).
