What signals do experienced affiliates use to evaluate products?

2•Videostarlord•2h ago
I’ve been exploring affiliate marketing and noticed something interesting: there are thousands of products on marketplaces like ClickBank and Amazon, but surprisingly little tooling to help affiliates evaluate whether a product is actually worth promoting.

A lot of people seem to rely on rough heuristics like:

marketplace metrics (e.g. gravity on ClickBank)

product page quality

niche competition

commission size

I started building a small tool to experiment with combining these signals into a simple product “score,” mostly as a personal project.

I’m curious how more experienced affiliates approach this problem.

Specifically:

What signals actually matter most when evaluating a product?

Are marketplace metrics like gravity useful or misleading?

What information do you wish you could see quickly before deciding to promote something?

I’d really appreciate hearing how people approach this.
