Wish they would go the other way to solve this.

Have really good unique controls.

For example, instead of foot brakes, have individual thumb controls for each brake and/or throttle.

Or maybe a different kind of control, like a thumbwheel for acceleration and braking. This was the best control I ever used on an electric skateboard because you didn't have to move a control in space, which could be tricky when you body is moving.
