Fun read. Where I live we’ve got plenty of raccoons and skunks too, but the numbers never get out of hand. Coyotes are around constantly, and they seem to keep the mesopredators in check.
NYC feels like the opposite with tons of food sources, tons of hiding spots, and basically no predators. The raccoons aren’t just clever; they’re operating in an ecosystem with nothing pushing back.
