Show HN: Kilo – Open-source, local-first workout, weight and calorie tracker

2•shayan_abbas•1h ago
Started my fitness journey last year and have lost 40kg till now. While doing it, I leaned heavily on logging my calories, weights and lifts. All of this was pretty scattered and I had to write custom scripts if I wanted to just visualize my progress and see how I was doing over time. The apps that do it like strong/hevy are heavily paywalled and basically every useable feature is something you have to pay for.

Decided to create an app that does that and add some more analytics and fun features into it. I have been using it for a month now and so decided it was time to release now.

Its completely open source, requires no account, no servers online and stores everything locally on sqlite. Plus it provides you with most of the features that paywalled apps provide + some more. You can log your workouts, calories, weight. Provides deep analytics of your lifts, a body heatmap, PRs, 1RM, date filtered set, tonnage for specific muscle group so basically everything for progressive overload and tracking your progress. If you're coming from Strong or Hevy, you can import your history from their CSV export so you don't lose your progress.

Install: APK on GitHub Releases, or add the repo to Obtainium for auto-updates. https://github.com/ShayanAbbas1/kilo

(Not on F-Droid/IzzyOnDroid yet, it ships Expo OTA updates, which I'm still deciding how to reconcile with their no-self-updater policy.)

Drop any feedback/issues found or feature requests here or in the github issues tab. I'm actively working on it.

This is exactly how many great products start—solving your own problem first. Also, huge respect for losing 40kg. That's a bigger achievement than building the app itself.

Thanks a lot! It is but if more people find the app useful in their own journey, the app would be the bigger achievement :)
