Hi! I'm one of the organizers. This is a new experiment we are trying, and are grateful to have major academic and industry AI labs willing to participate. We hope in time this will create a funnel for talented highschoolers who take part in the main competition, to join these labs.

How it works: after receiving a fixed starting prompt, each AI system must autonomously develop and improve code to train ML models over 2 hours, with zero human involvement. The AI system must submit code and track its scores on a leaderboard through Kaggle CLI. More details here: https://ioai-official.org/ai-model-track/faq-section/

To clarify, the AI systems are not competing against the highschool students. They have a separate leaderboard and medal track, but will solve the same new machine learning modeling problems during the same competition days (and same time limits).

Registration is still open until 31 July 11:59PM AoE. If you know a lab building an autonomous ML solver or AI research system, please reach out through the contact details on the registration page: https://ioai-official.org/ai-model-track/
