I think we are starting to find a new alignment for society working around these tools and in it experiencing both real growing pains as well as perceived fear of the unknown.

Glad to see Im not the only one thinking this way. The fight isnt over until it is really over - we shouldnt act like it is.

I don't know about big firms like Google.

But around me, so many companies in my industry are hiring their first software engineers. In the past, these companies could never dream of building any custom software because it was so risky and expensive.

Nowadays, a single software engineer who can leverage AI can build a lot, really fast. For years on HN, I predicted that software engineering would become sort of like accountants for companies. You should hire one. Most companies need one. In the past, most companies could not afford to hire any and one software engineer could barely build anything. You needed a team of them and give them 1+ year before they can produce any real production software. This was way too risky for most non-tech, non-enterprise companies.
