That is still 4000 extra to tax advantaged savings. Makes a high deductible plan much more active to those who can afford a more comprehensive plan. Pay your bills out of pocket and invest the rest. My company puts about 3000 into my plan above what I contribute so it is even more free money for my use in the future. I don't know of this, IRA (Roth) or 401k is the best investment but between them in expecting a nice retirement (most in the 401k because of the higher limits). I'm not quite along about early retirement but that discussion will be had soon.

Most reading this have the income to afford it so an HSA that you use only as an additional retirement account is a great idea.
