I feel like a lot of their complain boils down to, why is software written by technical people, designed for technical people such as themselves. Far often its not that the interface is "badly" designed, its just different from the default proprietary software they're used to.
This coming from someone who does pay for photoshop, but still finds themselves regularly opening up gimp regularly to do processes that are simply easier there.
> In the 90s it was common to download someone’s .exe and run it. Sometimes you got malware, but that wasn’t a big deal. We didn’t run our lives from our computers. Now it’s different. Giving an application access to your files possibly means giving it access to all your communication, photos, payment data and livelihood. And granting it the power to copy, delete or encrypt it for ransom. SaaS allows people to use software from publishers they don’t know with less risk.
Ironically thats the exact reason I avoid as much proprietary software as I can. My livelihood relies on my computers working and doing as I need, there are too many SaaS that have proven they cant be relied upon unless you're a customer with significant contractual heft.
