Rewatching clips of old Star Trek the next generation, I find that the debates haven't really changed since Pulaski was accusing Data of having simply memorised Sherlock Holmes (and when he passed that test, of simply remixing), and Riker was pulling his arm off while under orders to be the prosecution against Data's claim of sentience.
