Ok, well what about blowing up datacenters?

A few thoughts:

1. I think Texas paused because the backlog is like 2-3x their total electrical capacity so they just literally need to plan not to cause a crisis, not political reasons (though I think Ron Desantis has made this a political issue)

2. This is obviously frightening, but does the economy need to be blown up? Like you could make the argument in late 2007 “raising interest rates or following through on defaulting mortgages could blow up the global economy”. But it was too late the economy needed to be blown up. If there’s a soft landing let’s talk about that, but if there’s AI bubble is destined to blow up, the longer we wait the more damage. And it doesn’t feel like the economy is working great for normal people.

3. I see a lot of “data centers aren’t as bad as people say”. But I don’t see a lot of people actually making an argument in favor of data centers other than inevitably. They use some water they use some power they don’t provide that many jobs, and they center on places that offer them tax breaks.

So plainly like why should communities welcome data centers?
