Show HN: A tool to auto-generate .vscode/settings.json and extensions.json

https://github.com/RKasai127/vscode-autoconfig
2•rkasai•58m ago
Hello HN,

I built a tool that automatically generates .vscode's settings.json and extensions.json.

## Why I built this

At my job, our project didn't have a properly set up dev environment, and each developer managed their own .vscode settings individually. I felt this was hurting PR review efficiency due to formatting differences and similar issues.

We were allowed to use Claude Code, but .vscode is treated as a protected directory, so it wouldn't reliably create or update these files without me prompting it every time, which was frustrating.

There's a flag to bypass this, but that also lets every other command run unchecked, which isn't something I wanted on production code. So I built a dedicated CLI tool instead.

## Other notes

The range of settings it can currently auto-generate is still quite limited, but I'd like to keep expanding it going forward.

This is the first CLI tool I've ever built, so there may be some rough edges, but I'd really appreciate it if you'd give it a try.
