I just signed up a customer to Porkbun. During the billing setup. He had to go through an intrusive ID verification scanning his face and drivers license.

I want to make this really clear, you cannot be attaching a person's face and Id documents to a purchase. There is a database being built by other platforms to attempt to track peoples identity and connect those identities to their speech.

With the discord breaches as a reference im wondering if people really understand the problem. Porkbun uses Veriff and they say there one of the good guys, but 3rd party policies can change without notice.

The problem with face and identity documents is who stores the data and the breaches of security. Porkbun is putting the trust of other peoples data into a 3rd parties hands and that is an unacceptable.risk.

How are they trusting a 3rd party to tell you the truth about retention. We have governments and corporations that are pursuing Authoritarian agendas and lying about it, and this move by Porkbun is contributing to the problem. We have a whole slew of id verification companies saying one thing and doing another.

You cannot put your faith into a for profit corporation within our current corporate criminal climate. There is too much as stake right now and I cannot put my customers privacy in jeopardy. I am going to have to find another solution. Luckly I haven't moved too many customers over yet.

I hope Porkbun can find another way to protect themselves from fraud. You cannot have people connecting their person with their account related data, its too open to abuse.
