I think the death of the monoculture is a bad thing. When everyone has their own personal vibe coded experiences we lose the opportunity for shared cultural experiences that allow people to create common ground and bridge other gaps that may otherwise divide people.

Weird Al said this is why he doesn't make much music anymore, there simply aren't enough songs that everyone knows, like in the days of radio and MTV. Bringing that same trend to games feels like a step in the wrong direction as a society.

I have wondered about this same phenomenon with the explosion of media, games, etc. I wouldn't go so far to call it the death of the monoculture, but it is an interesting alternate side to the democratization and culture/political splintering of media.
