In Soviet Union, Optimization Problem Solves You (2012 but Relevant Again)

Socialism is the B-movie zombie of politics: you can kill it as often and as dead as you want to but it just keeps on crawling out of its grave time and time again, ready to devour another victim. What is it that makes this beast to tenacious, why won't people recognise it for what it is? Here's an essay on the problems encountered by those who tried to implement its ideas and - like always - failed to reach the promised land. Now that a new flock of starry-eyed freshly minted 'academics' have dug up the tattered remains of socialism, patched it together and given it a fresh face - heavily rimmed glasses, puffy hairdo, edgy T-shirt - it makes sense to read the obituary of one of the biggest failed ideas in history. The comment section is at least as interesting as the essay so read up and spell out the reasons why this time it [will|won't] work.
