> oxalpha.com is an independent site that gives you a free, no-login chat interface to the Ox Alpha model.

Why create a marketing page for someone else? Like it reads just like the typical >>we are the best<<, where you of course don't want to believe the hype. A blog doing a benchmark would be so much more valuable to readers. I am leaving this with more questions than answers.

gregjw•40m ago
i really doubt its for someone else, this will be from their team surely
maxcb•36m ago
You would think that, right? Here's the full text:

> oxalpha.com is an independent site that gives you a free, no-login chat interface to the Ox Alpha model. We are not the model's creators — we're fans of it, like everyone else trying to guess who built it.

simonw•35m ago
The FAQ says:

> We are not the model's creators — we're fans of it, like everyone else trying to guess who built it.

Seeing as you can access the model for free in a number of different ways right now - including via OpenRouter https://openrouter.ai/stealth/ox-alpha - it's not far fetched for someone to create a free UI on top of that.

simonw•13m ago
You can use their AdSense token to see other sites by the same operator. This one fits their pattern: https://builtwith.com/relationships/tag/CA-PUB-1851068468056...

Sites like:

  chatgpt4.org
  picai.com
  chatai.org
  aidetector.ai

Yeah, something about this whole website is just weird. The way it keeps repeating things like:

> Nobody knows who made it — everyone wants to try it.

> nobody knows for sure which lab made it.

It just comes off untrustworthy, like I am getting scammed somehow. The whole thing being written like typical low signal to noise LLM slop does not help either.

This is like when Eric Weinstein went on Rogan and told him and Jamie about https://pullthatupjamie.com as if he wasn't involved with that at all...

Edit: typos

It's like someone registered this domain before and then used AI to create a landing page to ride the wave of popularity.
yorwba•10m ago
SEO juice, malware distribution, harvesting payment information, selling the domain to the real model provider... Lots of ways to make a quick buck. For example, last year when Lightricks released the LTX video model, somebody else registered ltxv.video and got 215 upvotes https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43944974 but the Lightricks CTO showed up to inform people that this wasn't their site. It now redirects to ltx.io, so either money changed hands or they filed a trademark dispute.
parting0163•40m ago
Those task completion percentages cannot possibly be accurate. I have not had anywhere near that amount of success with this model. It is good, but not as good as this page suggests.
walrus01•38m ago
Curiously the domain has existed since 2022 so either they bought it off a reseller (it was some speculative registration and got parked on a for sale page), or there's some longer term planning involved here.

Is there a name for this almost entirely LLM generated website content template? I'm talking about the top navbar, the content layout. Seen the exact same thing so many times now.
refactor_master•35m ago
Bootstrap HTML?
KronisLV•33m ago
I really liked Bootstrap because it was consistent and usable - making web just a tad easier to navigate.

This modern AI website stuff feels obnoxious - annoying short punchy sentences together with paragraphs of text that meander and don’t get to the point, and often also those weird pulsating status indicators for things that have no status etc.

walrus01•31m ago
The "We're going to animate this and make things weirdly smooth and transparent just because" approach reminds me in a bad way of Windows Vista.
