Surely at some point Google has to find a way to fight back against Edge et al. Perhaps only if they start losing significant market share - owning standards has value. I wonder if Google has longer term lock-in plans (maybe springboarding off Android). I guess it is hard to have internal intent while avoiding discovery for antimonopoly laws

If it wasn't chromium it would be gecko or webkit. Google only controls web standards because everyone builds on chromium.
