The 'Dragon Age' Debacle That Gutted EA's BioWare Studio (2025)

Maybe an unpopular opinion but Dragon Age was always kind of a mess. They never could seem to figure out what kind of franchise they wanted the games to be

The first game is really clunky as an RPG and is really mostly saved by the characters and story. The second game was plagued by issues as well, with a lot of asset and area reuse. I remember people being pretty disappointed in a lot of stuff about Dragon Age 2. It was so different from the first and just never. Inquisition (the third game) was kind of a blend of the two and I suspect was the most successful and also the highest quality but it also came with this weird tacked on multiplayer thing (same with Mass Effect 3). The overall story and setting always seemed to lack a coherent direction across the games to me. I imagine a 10 year gap between Inquisition and Veilguard didn't help that either from a storytelling perspective

I am not remotely surprised to find out that the Mass Effect team was a well oiled machine and the Dragon Age team was a meandering sailboat. It shows in the products, big time
