A perfectly optimized system that produces incompetent operators is not optimized at all. It has simply moved its failure mode somewhere the spreadsheet can’t see it.

Technically I suppose a perfectly-optimized system doesn't need operators, competent or otherwise.

The second sentence is an ai generation tell. Idk why ai always tries these sort of “wow you” sentences. The tone is pretty off putting once you’ve experienced it enough times.

This appears to be a completely AI-generated article, in which AI is telling us how to protect ourselves against AI. I don't know what's going over at IEEE, but every article from them that I've seen in the past year is like that and I really don't understand what's the long game.
r_lee•32m ago
it seems like the entire world is in some kind of delusional trance, generating "value" with these AI slop articles and AI art

or maybe it's just that I can't imagine people actually putting their time into reading this all when they pick up on the LLMisms. maybe they'll just stop reading these articles altogether

Xirdus•11m ago
With been in delusional trance for 30+ years generating "value" in form of endless documents, analyses, memos, presentations, reviews, reports, and so on and so forth.

The only thing that changed recently is that producing documents is now easier than ever.

_dark_matter_•3m ago
Strong disagree. Do not conflate hard, human created works with AI slop.
SA9G•28m ago
The nuclear powerplant operator dilemma reminds me of the design flaw in "self-driving" cars that want a human to take control when things go wrong. A human who is not driving is not paying attention and lacks the spatial awareness to take immediate control in a critical situation... Then again, quite a few people don't seem to be paying attention while driving. Sigh.
Xirdus•8m ago
It's not a design flaw, it's a feature - a built-in scapegoat for everything that goes wrong!
myko•4m ago
> The causal story is still contested, and honesty requires saying so.

This slop is embarrassing
