I'm not a gambling person. But I went to the casino the other day with my wife and some friends just to try and have some fun.

We started with the slot machines. But not fully understanding and having no say at all in what was happening was not what I define as fun.

I then saw some blackjack "machines," where you can play on a screen instead of a table, and that caught my attention. I played quite a few hands, and that was way more fun than slot machines.

So, after going home, I started looking into the statistics of it, and it's quite interesting. But just reading them was boring, and they wouldn't stick in my head. But also just playing it wouldn't help me learn much, since I had no idea what I was doing. I found these trainer apps, but they were also not ideal, since you're just learning, but don't actually play hands.

So, after searching for a bit and not finding anything, I decided to pair up with Claude Code and create what I wanted.

I'm a software engineer and live in the terminal, so a TUI was a no-brainer.

I ended up creating this hybrid blackjack trainer, where I can play the game but still get trainer tips on whether my decision is aligned with the statistics of the game, and why.

It "grades" each decision on the spot, based on the scenario currently happening, which is quite interesting.
