I have also used the Linux system for many years. It is mainly used on servers.
This year, I started using the Mac system. This Mac system is also very good. At first, I didn't get used to it, but after getting used to it, it was very convenient. However, I still haven't gotten used to finding files. It's not possible to directly locate the directory where the file is located at once. Also, the preview of files is not as smooth as it should be. Apart from the low cost performance, everything else is an advantage.
In summary, every operating system has its advantages and disadvantages. It's up to everyone to choose which one suits them. I will use these operating systems together, and I will adopt the good features and change the bad ones.
Where are you at when you're trying to get the file location? If the file is open, typically you can right-click the file name in the titlebar of the window to see the hierarchy of folders from / to the file. Clicking any folder in this hierarchy will open that folder in Finder.
Next to the filename in the titlebar of the window, if you hover over it for a second, you'll see an icon show up to the left of it (not sure why they decided to start hiding this)... this is a proxy icon that lets you drag and drop the active file as if you were dragging it from Finder.

Is this thumbnail loading that you're talking about? I have noticed that can feel a little slow on my M1 Pro, at least if he folder hasn't been opened recently. For quick file previews, I've found QuickLook (selecting a file and using Space to open/close a preview) to be extremely fast. I miss it on Windows and Linux... there are clones of it, but I don't find they work as well.
Pick a reasonable desktop distro, throw it on a spare drive to test it out, and go nuts.
