Ask HN: Whats the future of marketplaces going to be like

1•ddaniel10•40m ago
Im thinking on all those marketplaces/hubs who built brand in the last 15 years. Airbnb, Booking, Yelp, Fiverr, Expedia and more and more...

What do you think their future going to be if my personal ai agent can query in the background 10 of them in same time and close the deal without even see their name.

Anyone will be able to open one and the agents will query his aggregator as well.

Anyone who isn't owned by an AI lab will close the gates to safeguard monetization techniques. It'll be left to users to decide whether they want to fund AI or fund independent shops and communities, but the awareness threshold will not improve. A majority of people will pick convenience and centralization over principles as they always do, and the visible fraction within society of pro and against AI will keep growing and, unless AI starts profit-sharing, giving back or delivering on its promises, that won't lead to anything good.

i dont get it. independent shops you mean airbnb?

its really interesting question about "independent shops" as separated topic, i guess they actually going to benefit from this no?

pluc•23m ago
I mean independent as in without dependencies on AI labs.

And they might benefit through increased sales, but they will lose every other monetization avenue they had (visits, related items, data, etc). How does "the AI industry as a whole" reward all the shops of a given item and not just one consistently? That just sounds like SEO and AdWords with a different engine
