not really sure its a wise choice to disclose datacenters anymore publicly. Just increases attack vector and not very value adding to people. most customers care about latency and as long as you can point to a region where you are its enough

Is it actually possible to hide the locations of datacenters? At least large ones?

Transparency is good.

Surely anyone with an interest could find this through various means.

Also easily found potential military targets: power generation, water treatment, hospitals, schools, government buildings, etc.

Kinda hard to hide them when you choose to build them in people’s backyards. The Meta ones near me are very visible.

Surprised at how few there are...

Nobody lives there. Ten times more people live in Indonesia.

We spend 2mm+ a year on GCP. Most of our services are in us-central1. We don't have a support contract because they want 10% of our spend a year and we haven't needed actual support once -- the product is pretty solid, so we go through a reseller with paltry commit discounts and bad support.

For the last few months we haven't been able to do things like scale up our Enterprise Plus Cloud SQL instances due to opaque CPU quota restraints. We want to throw money at Google and they do not let us. Fortunately we can work around it but it's absurd. Entire classes of CPUs are off limits because we'll be quota'd and quota increase requests are denied.

I very much like GCP but if you want to use it for the enterprise I suspect you gotta pay the support tax just to get somebody to check a box in their admin console to let you spend even more money.
