About a month ago, a post entitled "Why is Google still serving dodgy ads" gathered quite a few comments. My project to remediate this problem was already well underway, but it only just launched this Tuesday, so I’d be very grateful if original participants could take it for a spin. The only requirement is an email address for the sending of major product update notifications. You’re welcome to use a throwaway account in any case.
On to the meat: BidBouncer is a free (it’s still in beta), daily-updated URL blocklist of egregious ads. Installation and updates are taken care of from inside Google Ad Manager through a bookmarklet – full source provided, for obvious reasons. Coverage should be at least adequate.
If BidBouncer gets traction, updates will be fully automated; subscriptions will cost a ludicrously low price, as I am well aware that everything from the data to the client-side code is fully exposed and there is no moat. I’d rather undercut myself than have someone else repackage my work; I also wish to help as many fellow tiny publishers as possible to uphold high ad quality standards.
Feedback welcome, be it good or bad.
