A practical, in-depth tutorial for editing Android app code and producing a working, installable APK — plus the theory of why the toolchain looks the way it does.

This article is a tutorial for beginners that teaches how to edit the bytecode in an APK to modify the apps behavior, useful for bypassing license checks or block ads, analyzing malware or analyzing your own applications to make it harder for someone else to crack your application.

It starts with the basics like explaining the difference between smali and apk files, why you can't edit disassembled java code through jadx and rebuild an apk and then it shows you practical examples of how it is done and some common pit falls to avoid.
