Some months I needed to record and share a single 30-minute demo, but in other months I only needed a few 2-minute quick videos. Paying $18/month didn't justify. So I had to build it myself.

Shroom is a free, open source (MIT) screen recording and sharing app for Mac, hosted in your own Cloudflare account. Install with one line (or with your AI agent) and follow a guided setup for about 10 minutes, a few clicks (create a token, add a card to enable storage on Cloudflare).

With Cloudflare's free tier, up to about 3 hours of recorded videos cost you nothing. After that, it is still cheap - use the slider at https://shroom.am to see the approximate storage costs.

Shroom auto-deletes stale videos (old, unwatched) to keep your storage consumption low. Pin important videos to keep them from being deleted.

Invite your teammates with a single link, they don't need a Cloudflare account. Their videos go into your storage. You only pay for storage, no matter how many people you invite.

It comes with an editor, but you can also cut as you record. If you make a mistake, just say "shroom cut" while recording and continue. After you stop the slipped sentence will be cut for you. It will also add chapters and captions to your video using AI, again, all running in your Cloudflare.
