I recently saw HackerTube, which Andrej Karpathy posted here, and really liked it. Instead of YouTube’s algorithm, it uses videos recommended on HN as the pool. Using it, I liked that I only watched and got recommended actually worthwhile videos, not clickbait Shorts or sensational stuff that makes me curious about things I never cared about.
But it’s limited to videos that got posted on HN, so I built a new service called OOO.
Like HackerTube, videos play in an iframe. The difference is that users can upload their own collections, and when you subscribe to collections, only those become your video pool.
Oh, and you can also customize how recommendations are sorted. You can make multiple feeds too, each pulling from a different set of collections.
I had Opus make about 50 initial collections and watched through them myself. It was a pretty good experience.
So I’d love for you to try it and give me honest (even harsh) feedback. Feel free to upload your own collections too. All feedback is welcome.
