This isn't new this has been happening for the better part of a decade and I get there's always a why now question but modern laptops are depressing even desktops are these days as well, I do like open hardware but the main thing that I hate is how everything is more and more proprietary everything is code wise every, year it gets worse every gen of intel and amd has locked it down more and more than it already was don't get me wrong I like old thinkpads as much as the next guy but even in there glory days the community only managed to open source the bios via coreboot they never managed to do it to the ec or any of the other proprietary y display chips or all the other display chips, and now the thinkpads are getting older nothing really took there place and I would hate the day where a really expensive framework or novacustom was the only way to get coreboot and at least the thinkpads got rid of the me which is looking more and more unlikely as time goes on. And they also managed to get risc v wrong as well while it's still early days they use a proprietory boot rom yes intel and amd use one to but I didn't expect it of off risc v. I honestly stop getting excited about new computer releases becuse intel has never gone on a stage and gone the new intel processor is 20x more locked down than the last one. Does nobody mind this I honestly don't see anyone talk about it even in the technical and cyber security industries.
