Show HN: Fermi Poker, a combination of poker betting mechanics with estimation

https://fermi.org
1•danielfetz•7m ago
Throughout this year I've been working on a game called Fermi Poker and have now published a guide on how to play and host a tournament. This guide includes a question set, a rule sheet to print out, and everything else you need to know. If you don't want to print out anything, you can also use fermi.org/play to see the questions on your device.

Fermi Poker combines the betting mechanics of poker with Fermi estimation questions like "How many new smartphones were sold worldwide in 2024?" or "How many chickens were slaughtered for meat worldwide in 2024?"

Once you've submitted a range estimate, there are four betting rounds, with two hints and the answer revealed between them.

The aspiration was to create a game that teaches important rationality concepts (Fermi estimation, Bayesian updating, cognitive empathy, world-modeling, emotional regulation, etc.)

If you want to host a tournament at your school or university, please consider reaching out as I can provide some funding to cover the cost of poker chips and small prizes.
