Show HN: Learn Languages with Dual Subtitles

1•nshelia•9m ago
I am not sure how many here have tried Duolingo for French, but I actually had a hard time speaking in the real world. For me, it is definitely a huge issue. I have level 60, travelled to Paris, and couldn't speak except a few words.

I am Georgian, and nobody taught me how to speak English. I only learned it by watching Game of Thrones multiple times, just using English subtitles and audio for many years, switching between Georgian and English. Watching the same episodes again really helped.

Dual subtitles are what I really needed.

So right now, I am using Netflix and watching my favorite TV show using French audio and French subtitles + English, where I remember most of the dialogues, and I highly recommend everyone to do it! I tried the LanguageReactor Chrome extension, but it wasn't good enough. So I decided to build a new one to actually help me roleplay scenes and practice my speaking, not just save some words.
