Fanaka – a handbook for African success in the international software industry

I was in Tunisia a couple of years back and kept thinking that they have so much potential going on on the software side of things, but they are mainly locked to be the out-source of french companies due to their almost universal lack of English skills... they have some amazing work spaces and very talented people...
cblum•8mo ago
What’s the work culture there like? Is it more relaxed than in North America or Western Europe?
pelagicAustral•8mo ago
Far more relaxed. They have their own times and those are based on the region you work on. They are very respectful of the job/project. Tunisians are very amicable people.

Depending on the zone, they do have shut downs that overlap with American and European times, with 50 Celsius at times, they have to stop for hours.

At first I though this was about international tech companies targeting the African consumer market, but it’s actually about helping African tech workers work successfully in international tech companies

Despite the title, I found most of the advice to be just as useful to me from the other side of the pond.

In particular something that I've been struggling with, that I didn't know how to phrase before, is this idea of simultaneously having to fit in and stand out. [1] That's hard because they kind of seem like mutually exclusive concepts at first and it can really depend on the company whether is something unique in a good way or a bad way.
