Experience Making a 1-minute AI movie with my 7-year old daughter

https://drsandor.net/ai/minecraft/
22•chris_sandor•7mo ago
My daughter Kate (7 years old) really loves Minecraft! Together, we used several generative AI models (Wan Video, Flux Kontext, and DeepSeek) to create a 1-minute animation based on only 1 input photo of her.

You can read my detailled description of how we made it here: https://drsandor.net/ai/minecraft/ or can directly watch the video on youtube: https://youtu.be/xl8nnnACrFo?si=29wB4dvoIH9JjiLF

Nice work! Thanks for the detailed description.

My daughter (4yo) and I have been making small animated videos from her Lego creations. We use Runway. She typically gets bored with it after 5-10 minutes, though.

Which part did your daughter enjoy the most?

chris_sandor•7mo ago
You are welcome!

I think she enjoyed most: Storyboarding with Kontext & selecting the best clips

Self forcing is really bad and deteriorates video quality a lot. Dont recommend unless your "job" is extremely simple, like "the character smiles and then turns around"
chris_sandor•7mo ago
My experiences are based on https://huggingface.co/lightx2v/Wan2.1-T2V-14B-StepDistill-C.... Are we talking about the same thing? I could not observe a clear degradation in video quality, quality got sometimes even dramatically better!
zingababba•7mo ago
Very cool. Since Veo 3 launched with the audio generation stuff it is now the norm to spend ~30 minutes making videos with my niece and nephew when I see them which is relatively often. My niece in particular understood prompting immediately.

"Please don't use HN primarily for promotion. It's ok to post your own stuff part of the time, but the primary use of the site should be for curiosity."

So many people lately taking the shortcut of using this place solely to advertise their projects which themselves are shortcuts taken to sidestep real work and creation.

Speaking of cost .. how much did it cost? 3 Euro for Black Forest, but what about "1-2 hours rendering time on an H100 GPU). We let it run over night on 2 H100s (15 GPU hours in total)"?
chris_sandor•7mo ago
Good point! I should have mentioned that I have free access to an H100 cluster.
ofrzeta•7mo ago
Heh, that certainly helps keep costs down (for you) :)
