SilverBullet is an awesome piece of software. I still run it, and used to use it quite a bit a year or so ago. I've mostly switched to pen-and-paper, but if you have some spare time and want a simple, customizable note taking app, I highly suggest trying it out. I will say, don't skip the tutorial; it's pretty helpful.
puppycodes•2mo ago
This looks cool however how the app loads is a major issue.

I get a first paint that seems like its loaded then the page reloads. Sometimes it fails all together.

This might seem like not a big deal but speed and a well built frontend is absolutely key if you want more users for a note taking app.

dominicm•2mo ago
Silverbullet is a PWA that downloads all your notes and then operates on them locally, so that slow initial load happens fairly infrequently.
puppycodes•2mo ago
If this is your product, my suggestion is you might want to consider a UI element that doesn't break user expectations on load, like maybe a sync button or something that doesn't feel like a buggy frontend but feels more intentional?

It may happen infrequently once you start using it and adopting it but first impressions are important.

Otherwise looks cool and interesting, glad its open source ;)

Back when this was first announced it was pretty neat, but I don't think it passes the long term reliability test for me. Last time I tried it I somehow managed to erase all the notes and the site broke - didn't exactly instil much confidence.

I have been using it since February 2025. Loving it. Both the community and author are very helpful and responsive to questions.

SilverBullet is highly customizable. I have tailored my instance to my preference and the community openly shares quality of life features they created.

To dominicm point, SilverBullet is a PWA. You work with a local copy and it periodically synchronizes. SilverBullet can run on another computer or locally, too. I run SilverBullet on an Alpine LXC and works great!
