I don't know how to ask this, because I don't understand, and I don't know what I don't know about this kind of stuff: How does this compare to Buffett putting so much money into Google? It seems like people on the inside of technology are selling, but the people on the outside are buying.
cactusplant7374•2mo ago
I doubt it is Buffett personally. He has Todd Combs and Ted Weschler making these kind of decisions.
arewethereyeta•2mo ago
one may be closer to Donald Trump than the other.
phyzix5761•2mo ago
Usually, but not always, investors buy something when the price is at a point where they believe the asset is undervalued. They sell when they believe the asset has reached its fair market value or is overvalued. I haven't followed Thiel closely enough but for sure this is what Buffett is doing. Assuming Thiel is doing the same then he believes NVidia is currently at fair market value or overvalued. I would agree with the latter.
gman83•2mo ago
If Google actually starts selling their TPU chips, that could potentially harm NVIDIA.
xnx•2mo ago
> If Google actually starts selling their TPU chips,

Why would Google sell TPUs if it can rent them?

belter•2mo ago
Buffett business is not stock picking, he is bad at it, and made terrible under performing choices like Coca Cola, IBM and Wells Fargo. Its not where he makes his money.

> Peter Thiel sells entire Nvidia stake despite AI bubble fears

Who wrote that sentence?

> sold all 537,742 Nvidia shares

Shares are near $190 now, so would be $100m. But would have been less when he sold the shares presumably. That's not all that much - for a billionaire.

He could just as easily signal he is going in on another deal he likes better, than any negativity on Nvidia[s future. Nvidia is large. Many smaller companies hitting their stride will grow faster than nVidia.

Also, his alignment is "smart-chaotic", sometimes border dancing with "smart-crazy". Not worth reading too much into any single move.

Well, earnings call is in 2 days - will definitely be interesting!
