Show HN: Kinkora – A creative playground for experimenting with video models

https://kinkora.fun/
9•heavenlxj•1mo ago
Hi Indie Hackers We’re building Kinkora, a creative platform that brings multiple image and video AI models into one place for experimentation and creation.

Like many builders, we found ourselves constantly switching tools just to test different models or creative directions. Each platform felt limited to a single workflow or use case. So we decided to build a space that’s more modular, exploratory, and creator-first.

Kinkora focuses on:

Supporting popular generative models

Making experimentation fast and enjoyable

Laying the foundation for a creative community, not just a generator

Our long-term goal isn’t just “generate content”, but to create a place where creators can play, iterate, and discover new ideas as models and techniques evolve.

We’re early, actively iterating, and would love feedback from fellow indie builders on:

Feature direction

Community mechanics

Creator-friendly workflows

Happy to answer any questions

Hi HN,

I'm the maker of Kinkora. We built this as a creative playground that brings together multiple mainstream image and video generation models in one place, making it easier to experiment, compare outputs, and iterate on ideas.

This is a major update from an earlier version, with expanded model support, improved UX, and clearer creative workflows. We’re still early and would really appreciate any feedback from the community.

Happy to answer questions.

I see you are intending on allowing NSFW. How do you prevent the nightmare of people doing illegal stuff?
mannanj•1mo ago
Maybe they don’t, and that’s their design choice. Is that illegal or a violation of some laws?
giancarlostoro•1mo ago
Generating children doing NSFW is very illegal, in several jurisdictions even cartoons depicting children in a sexual setting is highly illegal. I would not take that risk if I were them.
heavenlxj•1mo ago
We take this concern very seriously.

We are currently re-reviewing the models we support and will not rely on front-end filtering alone. In addition to stricter automated checks, we’re increasing human review where appropriate and adding safeguards at multiple layers of the system.

We’re actively evaluating further measures and, if necessary, will remove or restrict certain models as we iterate.

Thanks for raising this — it’s an important discussion and one we’re addressing carefully.

What is up with the name?

Edit: Kinkora implies that it has something to do with kinks, at least that was my first impression.

My guess is that it means something in another language, but maybe this is not a good first association that you would want for a AI image generation product that can be used in a professional setting.

dang•1mo ago
Since not everyone here is a native English speaker, it would be good to explain what you mean about the name.
otabdeveloper4•1mo ago
Basically everybody who speaks English will assume it's a pornography site.

(Not unwarranted because pornography is so far the only commercial niche for generative AI.)

GordonS•1mo ago
I read it more as "kin-kora", TBH.

They've tried a bunch of other names for various projects that failed to garner attention:

Also unfortunately reminiscent of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kincora_Boys%27_Home
heavenlxj•1mo ago
We’ve noticed that the name creates unintended associations for some users, especially in English, and that’s not what we want to emphasize going forward.

We’re actively discussing a rebrand to better reflect the creative and model-focused direction of the product.

giancarlostoro•1mo ago
The site description says it allows NSFW.
gostsamo•1mo ago
Yep, my first thought too. Substituting the "s"in Sora with "kink" definitely leads one to that conclusion.
heavenlxj•1mo ago
That’s fair feedback.

what is the difference between prompting nano banana directly vs using your tool?
heavenlxj•1mo ago
Beyond basic generation, our focus is on what happens after the first result.

While prompting Nano Banana directly gives you raw generation capability, our tool is built to support the full creative loop. We aim to provide more capabilities that help users turn an initial output into a finished piece—such as enhancing generated images, iterating with structured edits, transforming images into videos, and adding or refining textual elements.

Over time, we’re also investing heavily in interaction and workflow design. The goal is to make modifications fast and intuitive, so creators can experiment, revise, and evolve their ideas without starting from scratch each time.

In short, direct prompting is about getting a single result, whereas our platform is about helping users continuously refine and expand that result into richer creative content.

kmoser•1mo ago
Overall it works really well. A bunch of comments/feedback:

Registration/login required before you can create videos, ok, I can deal with that. But the toast message at the top right of the screen asking me to log in ("Video generation failed, authentication required") obscures the Login and Sign Up buttons on the top nav. Suggestion: in the box where the video would go, where it says "Generation Failed / Authentication Required / X Dismiss", replace the Dismiss button with Login / Sign Up buttons, and remove the toast (or make not obscure the Login / Sign Up buttons).

Once I register and authenticate, my original prompt and settings are lost. Oops, those should be retained, so when I return they are still there.

"Space" is a weird name for the page that has my videos. It's also right in the middle of a bunch of other items that are not specific to me. I suggest you rename it "My Videos" (or similar) and/or have it under the avatar dropdown.

How do I create more videos? The only way to get to the video creation page seems to be by going to the Home page, then clicking the "Try Now - Free Demo" button.

"Random seed for reproducible results" seems wrong. Wouldn't you want a fixed seed for reproducible results? In other words, if it selects a seed at random, wouldn't the results be different every time? But if I enter, say, 42 for the seed, then the results would be the same every time? That's not really clear.

Option for 4:3 aspect ratio (or others) would be nice.

heavenlxj•1mo ago
Thanks for taking the time to test Kinkora and for sharing such detailed feedback — we really appreciate it.

We’ve read through all of your points and have taken them into account. The feedback is very helpful, and we’ll be actively working on fixes and improvements based on your suggestions.

Thanks again for the thoughtful input.

Does anyone actually know of a full length generated film yet? It should have been stitched together by now I think.
