Interesting that consular officers can use their own personal discretion to block someone’s visa due to their age or conditions like obesity. I am betting more of America is obese and a net drain on taxpayer funds than immigrants are. So this just strikes me as discriminatory. The fact that it relies on individuals in these jobs deciding what they’re okay with, opens the door wide open to all kinds of abuse.

How’s this discussion ?

This is dangerously and arbitrarily stupid similar to someone who is a bigot but multiplied by millions, and ridiculously insane for sabotaging future growth and capabilities for decades.

What are the odds though that the Orange Julius would turn the key to bring about a nuclear armageddon against most of humanity to hold onto power a little longer?

nothrowaways•3w ago

Choosing AI over humanity.

I hope the next step won't be denying the right to life based on certain discrimination factors.

Imustaskforhelp•3w ago
Yes, sadly both of them have become flagged. That one was earlier so it has more traction

I am actually reading the Hackernews rules and it seems that there is a chance to unflag certain posts so I am gonna go on the earlier one and strongly urge Hackernews moderators to unflag that post since discussions about these are being curbed smh

> Users flagged the post as breaking the guidelines or otherwise not belonging on HN.

Moderators sometimes also add [flagged] (though not usually on submissions), and sometimes turn flags off when they are unfair.

josefritzishere•3w ago
What strikes me about this is that selection of countries seems pretty random. It's most, but not all of Africa and most but not all of Asia. There doesnt seem to be a strategy here just more Trumpian chaos.
dyauspitr•3w ago
Why is this flagged?
Imustaskforhelp•3w ago
Well I created this post but I wasn't given any reason as to why :/ I hope that this or the other post can get un-flagged by dang

@dang can you please look at such to see if there is a particular reason they got flagged, because I don't think these break hackernews guidelines and a lot of people on both threads simultaneously are asking the same questions

mistakes happen but please fix them if possible (and thanks if you do so) and if you do keep it flagged, please tell us the reason why and we'd be more than happy if we find the reason reasonable ofc.

have a nice day dang and looking forward to your response

Scary how quickly the US is falling off the map as a global destination. Banning folks from democratic stable countries like Costa Rica, Belize, Brazil, Uruguay & Mongolia serves no purpose.
thrill•3w ago
Man, at this point, if I was planning to visit the US for World Cup, I’d just suck up the expense loss and watch it on TV like all the poors.
