Doctors Just Staged the Quietest Coup in American History

36 doctors declared President Donald Trump mentally unfit for office.

Whoopty do.

I mean... this was common knowledge before the election...

The blogs post seems overly dramatic to me and vastly exaggerating the importance of that document. A bunch of doctors voiced their concern about the president, and that concern was added to the public record. That's it.

We don't know if anyone will actually stop it if Trump ever gives a catastrophic military order. Odds are against it, since none of the illegal orders so far have been resisted effectively.

It's not a coup if the president isn't replaced...

Quiet indeed...

> It's not a coup if the president isn't replaced...

... or even inconvenienced.

Incredibly stupid article.

It brings to mind the parable of the drowning man or "what do you want from me, I sent you two boats and a helicopter".

AI;dr: 36 doctors signed a letter stating that Donald Trump is unfit to be president.

Various doctors have done this since 2017: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_and_health_concerns_about_...

I’d prefer that psychiatrist professional opinions stay out of politics, as they will certainly be weaponized, turned partisan, and tarnish the field. There are numerous reports from people that have actually met him in private describing his public persona as a theatrical showman.

> The President was not examined face to face, and he is not a patient of any member of our group. Rendering a formal diagnosis in this case is not our role. We have closely followed his behavior and his statements over the past year.

> It is our professional opinion that the behaviors of Donald Trump, tragically, are neither momentary lapses nor political theater. It is our professional opinion that they reflect a rapidly worsening, reality-untethered, increasingly dangerous decline.

https://www.congress.gov/119/crec/2026/04/30/172/76/CREC-202...

> However, it is unethical for a psychiatrist to offer a professional opinion unless he or she has conducted an examination and has been granted proper authorization for such a statement.

Ironically Wikipedia is the place for false diagnoses of any notable person, because “Claims About Self” are always presumed true, so any medical condition or disability that’s announced by the subject in the press is 100% unassailable unless proven fake.

Honestly, the findings match a lot of people above the age of 70. The older you get the more money and influence you potentially have so people who are quite elderly keep getting elected but we need to do something about this. I wouldn't feel safe with my 70 year old grandmother going to the grocery store by herself let alone having her run a country.

I very much don't think this blog post passes any sniff test for anything to be taken seriously or given much thought, it's just political agenda posting.

However, there is an interesting question on how presidential physical and mental fitness is evaluated. Does anyone have insight into what rules and regulations govern this and do they have any (preferably supreme court validated) backing?

delichon•15m ago
Other than the via 25th Amendment, the effective evaluators of presidential physical and mental fitness in the US are the voters. Doctors have no veto, just a vote.
