> Moving money naively is a commodity; > banks did it for centuries at rock-bottom margins

must have misspelt "ridiculous margins"

Bailed after the first paragraph, AI is increasingly becoming harder to read.

Although I don't want HN threads to devolve into AI-or-not whodunnits, I had the same general feeling. What is the best way to walk the line between not mentioning the elephant in the room, and spending too much time debating whether AI was used, whether that is OK, and what the impact was on the written product?

Assuming AI is a significant budget item for companies going forward, then this makes complete sense.

Someone's spending money and they can take a small % to move it from your account to an inference vendor's account. Except for this case you have to also ship tokens across.

If you see Ramp's counter point with launching router.com today, this move makes sense.

Because the next problem is cap budgets and block runaway spending.

Sorry but the authors of this article probably don't fully 'get it' (or at least cannot explain it well) either if this is their conclusion.

"In other words, Stripe did not buy a router. It bought a strategic frontier AI systems security and alignment asset. We believe combining this asset with Stripe’s existing infrastructure strengthens the ecosystem’s independent alignment capabilities in ways that would be difficult for any single lab to accomplish by itself. As such, this acquisition is net positive for the health of the independent frontier ecosystem."

Contrast with the clarity reflected in the letter Stripe reportedly sent to its investors.

"We see capital and intelligence are becoming the two digital flows undergirding every business ..... going forward every developer will also need a straightforward and reliable way to manage their intelligence pipeline" So basically Stripe already enables companies to manage capital. It now also hopes, with the acquisition, to jump to the forefront of managing intelligence / tokens for them. By bundling two core capabilities for AI forward companies they increase their offering attractiveness to businesses.

I think it makes sense in that autonomous agents are going to soon have their own bank accounts for spending and earning. They will start companies. They will make investments. They will evaluate SaaS offerings for you, and they will ping you that it found a cool mug on Etsy that you might want to buy.
