Show HN: A zero-telemetry clipboard, color picker, and capture suite

5•Peacetoes•4h ago
I’m not a software engineer by trade, but I needed to make a number of screenshots for my job that all needed to be the exact same size. Every app I found wouldn't let me input or save a preset size to make my life easier, so I thought I'd try out using AI to help me build a simple app to solve that problem. It wasn't long before I started adding more and more useful features and ended up building the screenshot app I wanted to see in the world (CapSize - which now has local OCR and a ton of annotation tools).

I had so much fun with it I started thinking of what other apps I could use for work and hobbies, and that's how I built SmartClip (a clipboard history manager with local privacy masking) and HexStack (a color picker that stores your hex codes and a lot more). Everything is 100% offline with zero telemetry and no account required.

I had no plans on sharing them with the world when I built them, but they helped me so much, I wondered if others might find them useful too. There's probably not a wide scale market for them, but I think developers, software engineers, UX/UI designers and testers could get a lot of use out of them.

If this is something you might find useful, I'd love your thoughts and feedback on what I've created. There is a fully functional, free "Core" version of each app on the site you can test out and demo videos showing the "Pro" features. If you really love the Pro features, I've set up a 20% discount for this community: Use code HN20 at checkout.

Thanks for taking a look!

I've been using TextStow for this — local-first clipboard history combined with prompt templates and text cleanup for messy copied content. Worth a look: textstow.com

Your comment history makes it blatantly obvious that you are affiliated with TextStow.

It's generally considered good practice to disclose this kind of thing. Please be more transparent in the future.

That’s an interesting topic. If I may offer a piece of advice, whilst the detailed explanations on the website are excellent, it would be even better if there were image captions or video descriptions. And It’s also a shame that the Git repository seems to lack a proper structure. 'https://github.com/ken-jo/agent-connector' This is my GitHub, but it has nothing to do with you, so this isn’t a plug. I hope there’s no misunderstanding; if you take a look here, you’ll see the README.md and LICENSE files. Having these in place will make your project look more professional.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into my repos, I'm still incredibly new to the open-source and GitHub workflow, so I completely missed adding those files. There are video demos inside the details modal of each app product card on my website, if you'd like to take a look.

really like this, the smartclip part especially. At uni i'm constantly copying questions into llms or pdfs and the moment i copy one more thing i lose the last one and have to redo it. Genuine question though since windows already has Win+V clipboard history what does smartclip add on top is it mainly the privacy masking and being fully offline?
