Show HN: Seisin – a desktop app that turns your job search into analytics

https://getseisin.com

Hello everyone,

I’ve been building Seisin, a desktop app for keeping an entire job search in one place.

I was planning on posting this back at v1.0, but held on to see a bit more of what HN was like before posting here. I kept building in the meantime, so what’s here now is v1.1.

It tracks applications, interviews, offers, resumes, contacts and notes, then turns all of that into analytics automatically.

Some of what’s in it now:

- Analytics (response rate by source, response time, weekly activity & trends, and more)

- A resume builder with five templates, import and export as PDF or Word, and an offline check for what’s missing before you send it

- Interview suite for contacts, rounds, prep checklists, a question bank and a STAR answer builder

- An in-app calendar that pulls in every interview and offer deadline, exportable or linked straight to Google or Outlook

- Offer comparison that keeps what you were actually offered separate from what a posting advertised and allows you to compare your offers side by side

- Import and export of application data (xlsx + csv)

- Job URL autofill

It’s built with Electron, React and TypeScript on the frontend, with a Python/FastAPI backend and SQLite underneath. The Python backend runs as a separate process that Electron bundles and launches on startup.

Everything is stored locally in a SQLite database. There are no accounts or sign-in. It does make 3 network requests which are all optional, mainly for checking for updates and updating conversion rates. I’m not trying to sell it as a privacy-first app though, it’s just a local-first app today, and I don’t want to make promises that future features might change. Optional cloud sync is something I’d like to add later, but I expect local-only to remain fully supported.

A couple of notes: it’s v1.1, Windows only for now, and the installer isn’t code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will show with a warning. A macOS build exists, but I’m waiting until it’s properly notarized before releasing it.

It’s completely free. There’ll probably be a paid version eventually so the project can support itself, but the core features will stay free, and any premiums will be adding depth to those features rather than blocking them off completely.

You can download it here: https://getseisin.com

I’d really appreciate any feedback. Does this actually feel like something people would use regularly? And if you’ve been through a long job search before, is there anything you’d expect a tool like this to do that I’m missing?
