Show HN: TypeSeer – on-device autocomplete for every text field on macOS

Hi HN, I'm the creator of TypeSeer. TypeSeer suggests the rest of what you're typing, as grey text at your cursor, in almost any Mac app. Tab accepts it.

It runs Gemma 4 E2B 6bit locally (mlx), and it needs Apple Silicon and macOS 14+.

I know there were many developers who tried to make this happen, and only one succeeded (so far), but I decided to try it myself. Indeed, hooking model to the Accessibility API on Mac was the easy part. What actually took me most of the time was to handle the responses from the tiny model and make sure they are usable. Additionally, the complete nightmare of hundreds of apps, with loads of them not really supporting the Accessibility API made me want to give up, but well, with the little help of a small group of testers, I managed to get it working. Current problems? It doesn't work in some apps (the ones who don't care about following standards and supporting Accessibility), but luckily, 95% of the apps are supported. The suggestions are not always positioned correctly, but I've added a neat feature to allow users to report the misalignment (and fix for themselves), so we are getting there.

This is not an open source project - but I am a strong believer in owning your software, and the main way of owning TypeSeer is through the lifetime licence purchase. It costs £59.99, but with the discount code SHOWHN25 you can get it down to £44.99. If you really want to use a subscription, there is also this option, but please don't. There is a 14 days trial with the whole functionality unlocked so you can try it out.

I am more than happy to answer any questions, if you have any.
