Inspired by the Howler letters in Harry Potter and Cida, which I've been using a lot lately
Besides needing translation at any time, I often want to look up a concept or learn about an event on the fly, without wanting to switch to a browser or open a separate session in Chat
So I made Howler, dedicated to Harry Potter fans, always there when you call, burning after reading
Unlike regular conversations, it doesn't take up your conversation list, and you don't have to think about cleaning it up or archiving it afterward. It's only for handling your sudden flashes of inspiration or a moment of confusion
Setup is simple: bring your own API key, then copy and paste the setup prompt to your agent (Claude Code, Codex, or any assistant that can run commands)
Currently supports Claude / OpenAI / Gemini / DeepSeek / xAI / OpenRouter, any OpenAI-compatible API, and local models through Ollama or LM Studio
It's free and open source (MIT), for macOS 14 or later
Friends who are interested are welcome to try it out and give feedback
For any suggestions, you can click "Send Feedback…" in the menu to tell me, or leave a comment
